Carbon regulation, tariff changes and energy-market uncertainty featured in discussions on European fertiliser trade at the Argus Fertilizer Europe Conference 2026 in Prague, according to Alkagesta. The company said it attended the event from 20 to 22 October, represented by fertiliser desk lead Vusal Muradov and fertiliser trader Tural Sabirzade across the three-day programme.
The gathering brought producers, traders, importers and policymakers together to discuss how carbon borders and trade are influencing the industry. Alkagesta said the opening programme examined the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the EU Emissions Trading System and tariff reforms. Sessions considered what those regulatory developments mean for fertiliser prices, the movement of supplies between markets and companies’ supply-chain planning.
The first day of the main conference turned to Europe’s competitiveness against a changing geopolitical backdrop. According to the company’s account, discussions covered the structural effects of disrupted supplies, volatile energy prices and changes in where fertilisers are sourced. Shipping, supply-chain resilience and the outlook for natural gas were also prominent subjects, alongside the wider commercial conditions facing fertiliser traders operating in European markets.
The second day expanded the agenda to specialty and bio-organic fertilisers, as well as users’ perspectives on food security and farm economics. Clean ammonia was discussed as a possible response to energy-related and geopolitical risks. The closing agricultural market update examined how the Middle East conflict was affecting planting seasons and yields, which Alkagesta linked to wider pressures on global energy and commodity supplies during 2026.
Alkagesta described its attendance as an opportunity to engage with producers, trading businesses and policymakers involved in Europe’s fertiliser market, and to strengthen relationships supporting its regional trading activities. Its account centres on the conference agenda and the value of those contacts, rather than announcing a transaction, supply agreement or investment arising from the event.
