Alkagesta said it attended Miller’s DayWithMiller workshops and annual cocktail reception in Paris on 8 October, at an event drawing more than 400 participants from the commodity trade finance and risk sectors. According to the company’s account, those attending included traders, banks, investment funds and development finance institutions, alongside insurance and reinsurance partners. The programme combined technical sessions with networking.
The workshops were organised by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team and formed the main part of the day’s programme. Industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and the management of risks associated with commodities. Alkagesta described the sessions as a forum for discussing the financial and insurance arrangements that support commodity trading, including credit and surety structures.
Other subjects included marine cargo insurance and political risk coverage. The company said participants had an opportunity to examine how institutions were handling risk management and compliance in an operating environment it characterised as increasingly complex. Its account focused on the scope of the discussions, rather than setting out individual speakers’ assessments or specific conclusions reached during the workshops.
An evening cocktail reception followed, allowing attendees to continue discussions and develop relationships within the commodity industry’s finance and risk community. Alkagesta presented its participation as part of its efforts to strengthen risk management, build closer ties with insurers and reinsurers, and demonstrate the compliance and governance standards it says support its international trading business.
The company said its operations cover petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel across approximately 48 countries. It linked that geographical and product reach to its relationships with trade finance providers, risk specialists and insurance partners, describing their support as central to carrying out its trading activities responsibly. The Paris gathering brought together representatives from those parts of the commodity trading ecosystem.
