Alkagesta said fuel diversification and the commercial expansion of lower-carbon marine fuels were prominent themes at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, where its executives met shipping and bunker industry counterparts. In an account published on its website, the company described a week of conference discussions and meetings covering fuel supply, decarbonisation and potential collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to Alkagesta, sessions explored how biofuels, methanol and LNG could be used alongside conventional marine fuels across different vessel types and trade routes. The company linked those discussions to its own efforts to expand sustainable fuels capabilities. It cited a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp as examples of activities already under way within its trading business.
Supply security was another recurring subject in the company’s account. Participants discussed diversification as a means of managing risk by limiting reliance on a single source of fuel supply. Alkagesta said those conversations addressed the resilience of shipping operators against a backdrop of continuing supply pressures in global energy markets. The report presented the shift towards multiple fuels as both a supply-management issue and part of the sector’s longer-term transition.
Moving decarbonisation projects beyond trials and into commercial operation also featured in the programme. Alkagesta reported that industry leaders identified clearer regulation, safety frameworks and access to finance as important conditions for that progression. Alongside the formal sessions, its team met shipowners, bunker traders, customers and suppliers to maintain existing relationships and explore further cooperation across Asia-Pacific.
The delegation comprised founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov; Tural Huseynov, managing director for investments and asset management; Agshin Bakirzade, commodity trading director for APAC; Mithat Çiftçioğlu, marine fuels distribution director; and Afiq Salim, senior marine fuel trader.
